Raising for the First Time?

We wanted to try to address some frequently asked questions and offer some suggestions to help you achieve your goals and get the best results.   Besides just keeping them alive for 10+ weeks – we want you to have the healthiest flock possible – of your course you are planning to eat them.

General Supplies

All of the supplies needed to get started can be procured at any local farm and fleet store

Simple Material Check:

Heat Lamps + Thermometers

Bedding

Feeders + Water Dishes

Coop  – There are some Amish in the Brown City area that build nice chicken coops

What we want to encourage is that you give your birds adequate space and ventilation.  This is essential to a healthy flock.  The other big one we want to emphasize is to KEEP THEM CLEAN!     How do you clean a chicken?? Its easy – they clean themselves!  But they can only clean themselves as clean as the environment they are provided.  The real easy button – let them free range.  If that is not possible on your property then be sure to routinely clean their bedding and be sure their coop has good ventilation.
