Where to get Chicks?

There are a number of options available depending on what you are seeking.  We encourage you to do additional research on your own but here are a few pointers to help you get started. 

More Meat? Yes Please!

Not all chickens are the same.  If you are raising poultry with seasoned, grilled, juicy chicken on your mind… Then there several breeds we suggest that will provide you with more meat than others.   Another consideration is the amount of time required to finish out the bird prior to butchering – this can range from a little as 8 weeks to as long as 20.

The most common chickens for meat production:

– Freedom Ranger 

– Dual Purpose  

There are a number of ways to procure chickens.  Many ‘farm and fleet’ retailers such as Tractor Supply, Family Farm and Home, etc. will retail chicks in their stores in the early spring.  Some may offer mail order options.  Below we have listed a few other sources for mail order chickens.
